The Osama bin Laden Death Hoax-Theory #2

I have a second conspiracy theory related to the report by our government regarding the death of Osama bin Laden.

The scenario: Bin Laden was alive and living in the compound in Pakistan. The U.S. military raid on May 1 went as planned and Navy Seals were able to kill or capture the al-Qaeda leader. The Seals took him (or his body) to their helicopter.  Whether by detonation aboard, weaponry from the ground, or some other undetermined reason, the helicopter exploded, killed all aboard and destroyed any evidence of bin Laden’s death.

A crashed US helicopter is seen near the hideout of Osama bin Laden after being attcked by rocket propelled grenades. The special forces troops escaped safely

“Some Pakistani eyewitnesses said that the helicopter was brought down by fire from within the compound but US officials insisted this was not the case.”–Telegraph, U.K.

Knowing at least that bin Laden was dead, our government decided to put out their best story  (which might explain the numerous conflicting reports in the aftermath of the raid). We were told Osama’s body was buried at sea quickly thereafter, with no photographic evidence. Everybody involved, President Obama, the CIA, the military, all end up looking good and bask in the glory of their triumph.

But what about the dead Navy Seals? How do you explain their deaths to the families? That’s where the supposed Helicopter crash on August 6 comes in. Helicopter Crash in Afghanistan Kills Members of SEAL Team 6  As in my first conspiracy theory, this crash, reportedly involving the same elite Navy Seal unit responsible for bin Laden’s death, accounts for a large number of Seals being killed, so neither the families nor anybody else needs to question their deaths.

(Update, August 29: Just to clarify, I do not believe our government killed the Navy Seals. However, I do believe it is possible our government may have made up or faked the August 6 helicopter crash to explain the possible deaths of the Navy Seals during the initial raid on the bin Laden compound.)

That is an alternate conspiracy theory. As before, I can’t prove any of it, but neither can the government prove their claims.  You can decide which  of my theories, or the government’s story, sounds the most plausible.

The Osama bin Laden Death Hoax

I am presenting a conspiracy theory. I have no facts on which to base this, just suspicions. That said, he is my theory:

On May 1, our government reported Osama  bin Laden was killed in a U.S. Navy Seal raid on his compound in Pakistan.  No proof was offered and his body was quickly disposed of into the sea. Or so they said. History, of course, records numerous incidents of our government lying to us, very often when it comes to national security and war issues.

Osama bin Laden 395617 01: (FILE PHOTO) Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden in an undated photo. October 10, 2001. Afghanistan's ruling Taliban lifted restrictions on Bin Laden, giving him permission to conduct "Jihad," or holy war, against Afghanistan's enemies.

There have been numerous reports that Osama bin Laden has been dead for years. Osama bin Dead?  Also, there was a recent post by former Reagan Treasury Secretary Paul Craig Roberts about a Pakistani TV interview with bin Laden’s next door neighbor, who describes a helicopter taking off after the operation, then exploding, killing all aboard.  Bin Laden Death Suspicious?  Here is another eye-witness account:

Osama Was My Neighbor (The Daily Beast)

Suppose Osama has been dead for years, and the Bush administration kept the fear of Osama bin Laden alive in order to execute their plans for Middle East war and occupation, as well as an all-encompessing, unconstitutional national security state in this country?  Barack Obama inherited this mess, and whether by ignorance, willingness or fear, kept the deception alive.

Then one day David Petraeus, Robert Gates, and the other Pentagon brass. say to Obama:  “Mr. President, you’ve given us everything we’ve wanted since you were elected.  We appreciate that. We told you we’d have your back and you would be rewarded. We have one more prize for you, a biggie.

“Your poll numbers are slipping, so you need something really spectacular.  Since we can’t milk the bin Laden thing forever–and he has been dead for years–how about we put him to rest (wink, wink) and give you all the credit? Just continue allowing us free rein and all the money we request and we’ll figure out more ways to reward you.”

Oh, one more thing.. The Navy Seals who conducted the raid never were identified. Okay, I understand that. But if bin Laden’s neighbor’s report is true, about everybody, including many Navy Seals, being killed in a helicopter explosion that day, the military had to account for those deaths.  On August 6, a U.S. military helicopter was reportedly shot down with the loss of many Navy Seals, “most of them belonging to the same elite unit as the Navy SEALs who killed former Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden, U.S. officials said.” (Unless they were already dead from the original Osama raid.) The names of the Navy Seals who died were confirmed.

(Update, August 29: Just to clarify, I do not believe our government killed the Navy Seals. However, I do believe it is possible our government may have made up or faked the August 6 helicopter crash to explain the possible deaths of the Navy Seals during the initial raid on the bin Laden compound.)

That’s my conspiracy theory. I can’t prove any of it, but neither can the government prove their claims.  You can decide which theory sounds the most plausible.

The Fed’s Unprecedented Generosity

Here is what the Federal Reserve didn’t want you to know: They helped large banks and other corporations out of a terrible jam. Sounds like a nice thing to do. Why wouldn’t they want us to know that?

Thanks to pressure from members of Congress like Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul, the Fed reluctantly submitted to the first audit in its 100 year history. Not a complete audit, but I suppose we have to be satisfied with what we get.

What the Fed probably didn’t want you to know was the extent of their generosity. They secretly gave $16 trillion. That’s $16,000,000,000,000 of U.S. currency. Their benevolence was extended to some of the largest financial institutions and corporations in this country, as well as to foreign banks and corporations.

They didn’t actually give the money out without strings. Rather, the Fed generously loaned the money with 0% interest (virtually none of it has been paid back). Some examples of their largesse: Citigroup got $2.5 trillion, Morgan Stanley $2.04 trillion, and Bank of America, $1.3 trillion. Foreign banks didn’t do too badly either.  The Fed loaned Barclay PLC of the U.K.  $868 billion, and Deutsche Bank of Germany received $354 billion. Many other big institutions in the U.S. and abroad were recipients of hundreds of billions more.

There happened to be some obvious conflicts of interest, too.  According to Senator Sanders:

The CEO of JP Morgan Chase served on the New York Fed’s board of directors at the same time that his bank received more than $390 billion in financial assistance from the Fed.

In another disturbing finding, the GAO said that on Sept. 19, 2008, William Dudley, who is now the New York Fed president, was granted a waiver to let him keep investments in AIG and General Electric at the same time AIG and GE were given bailout funds.  One reason the Fed did not make Dudley sell his holdings, according to the audit, was that it might have created the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Administration of these loans from the Fed was outsourced to private contractors, most of which were no-bid contracts.  Those companies included J.P. Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo. In an amazing coincidence, these firms ended up being recipients of trillions of dollars of these loans.

You may recall how upset the American people were about the original TARP bailout  in 2008 that insured $700 billion of “troubled assets.” And many citizens are furious about the $1.5 trillion government deficit this year. Once the public finds out that the Federal Reserve Bank bailed out huge financial companies to the tune of $16 trillion, they’ll likely go ballistic.

In theory, anyway.

For some reason, this $16 trillion bailout has slipped under the radar of the corporate media.  The GAO audit was released near the end of July. It’s almost as if they don’t want us to know.  You could make the case that America’s mainstream media is generously protecting us from upsetting news. When I was a journalism major, however, I don’t remember being taught about that being the role of the media.

That’s 16 trillion dollars of financial aid, ladies and gentlemen.  Larger than the our national debt of  $14.5 trillion, more than the $14.1 trillion total GDP of the United States. That kind of generosity is unprecedented, but maybe for reasons of modesty, Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, didn’t want this information to go public.

The information is out there. However, with this information essentially swept under the rug, the outrage isn’t.

Sacrifice by Democrats and Democrats

Obama: Debt Ceiling Deal Required Tough Concessions By Both Democrats And Democrats Alike

AUGUST 3, 2011 | From the Onion

ARTICLE TOOLS
  • WASHINGTON—A day after signing legislation that raised the government debt ceiling and authorized steep budget cuts, President Obama thanked Democrats as well as Democrats for their willingness to make tough, but necessary, concessions during negotiations. “I’m truly grateful that both Democrats and their Democratic counterparts were able to reach this consensus, accepting an agreement that is far from perfect not just for Democrats, but also for Democrats,” Obama said Wednesday of the deal that cut federal spending $2.1 trillion over 10 years but included no revenue increases of any kind. “Lawmakers from across the political spectrum—from moderate Democrats to the more liberal members of the party to dyed-in-the-wool progressives—reached within the aisle and showed the nation that compromise requires real sacrifice from everyone.” Obama added that while it may look ugly at times, politics is about Democrats giving up what they want, as well as Democrats giving up what they want, until an agreement can ultimately be reached.

BPR Quote of the Day: Corporations Are Machines

“Today the business once transacted by individuals in every community is in the control of corporations, and many of the men who once conducted an independent business are gathered into the organization, and all personal identity, and all individualities lost. Each man has become a mere cog in one of the wheels of a complicated mechanism. It is the business of the corporations to get money. It exacts but one thing of its employees: Obedience to orders. It cares not about their relations to the community, the church, society, or the family. It wants full hours and faithful service, and when they die, wear out or are discharged, it quickly replaces them with new material.

The corporation is a machine for making money, but it reduces men to the insignificance of mere numerical figures, as certainly as the private ranks of the regular army.”

Bob La Follette, 1897

Robert “Fighting Bob” La Follette, Sr., 1855-1925, ran for president of the United States on the Progressive Party ticket in 1924, and won 17% of the national vote. He was also Governor of Wisconsin and represented the state in the U.S. House (three terms) and Senate (three terms).

Addendum:

The La Follette family had a major presence in Wisconsin politics through the first half of the 2oth Century. When Robert La Follette, Sr. died in 1925, he was succeeded by his son, Robert La Follette, Jr.  The son served in the Senate until 1946, when he was defeated by Joseph McCarthy.

Resurrecting Democracy

Citizens United, the horrendous 2010 Supreme Court decision allowing corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence elections crushed what was left of democracy in America.

The amount of money that poured in to the 2010 midterm elections, as well as the recent Wisconsin recall elections, was unprecedented. Billionaires, donating without restrictions, made sure candidates favorable to their interests were elected. They essentially bought as much the government as they could, and are planning to buy what’s left in 2012..

Democracy cannot exist when elections can be bought. The task of fighting back will be difficult, but fortunately, there are citizen groups working to overturn this ruling and restore the fairness in our elections that the Supreme Court yanked away.

One such group is MovetoAmend.org, which is working to restore the concept that people, not corporations, should determine our elected representatives. In this video, Thom Hartmann and David Cobb give a good explanation of what is at stake and what can be done.

A Daily Dose of Dumb

For an indication of how far we have fallen as a nation, examine the amount of serious coverage given by network and cable news shows to the field of freaks running for the Republican presidential nomination.

The lineup on the debate stage in Iowa over the weekend was nothing short of scary. All eight of them said they would reject a deficit reduction deal with a ratio of ten dollars of spending cuts to one dollar of added revenue.  Imagine, ten to one isn’t even good enough for these tea party ideologues. How about a million dollars of cuts to one dollar of taxes? Would any of them stray from that purity test? Hard to tell, because it wasn’t asked.

Hardly any of them would have been seriously considered for a Republican presidential nomination ten or more years ago.  But crazy extremism is in vogue now, and news organizations present these brain-challenged narcissists  as genuine presidential candidates.

I suppose a case can be made for Mitt Romney as a credible candidate, even though he lacks personality and any real convictions. The rest have bizarre, radically right-wing views, but are portrayed as legitimate heavyweight candidates by news media outlets.

It’s ludicrous to devote so much attention to these nut cases, and frankly, it’s boring.  How often must we hear about the interminable horse race of wild-eyed lunatics vying for the Republican nomination? I guess a lot longer, or until the next sex or celebrity scandal diverts our attention.
