If you live in California, the largest state in the union, your vote for the president in 2012 won’t mean a thing. Think about it: California is a blue (i.e. Democratic) state and President Obama is expected to win California’s 55 electoral votes (which is the only thing that matters). If California leans Republican or even if the outcome is in doubt, you can be sure the Republican Party candidate is doing well and will have won the presidency by the time our polls close.
There’s not much you or I can do to affect the outcome of the presidential race. Most states are in this position, only a handful are truly up for grabs. A stupid way to elect our president, but it’s in the constitution. Your vote? In California and most other states–meaningless. Thought you might want to know.
