Here is how the  American political system works:  Republicans promise to cut taxes, which gets them elected.  They run up huge deficits, which leads to Democrats getting elected.  Democrats raise taxes to rein in the huge deficits. Republicans promise to cut taxes, which gets them elected….. The cycle keeps repeating.
